The USF School of Music is an exciting place for study and performance in one of the most artistically active areas in Florida. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered in performance, music education, jazz studies, composition and piano pedagogy. Instruction is given in all orchestral instruments (woodwind, brass, percussion, string), voice, and piano. Students majoring in music education may select an instrumental or a vocal specialization. Many students not majoring in music elect to complete a music minor, choosing from three concentrations: theory/history/literature, applied medium or composition.

There are many incentives that attract music students to USF. Among these are a distinguished artist faculty; splendid ensembles that perform regularly at state, regional and national music conventions; an exceptional jazz studies program; one of the most complete electronic studios in the nation (SYCOM); and a cultural environment that boasts two professional orchestras, a professional opera company, a professional ballet company, and four of Florida's leading performing arts centers. For every music student, listening and learning opportunities never cease; for the advanced student, performing opportunities abound!

The Tampa Bay area offers a wide range of excellent cultural activities. The many professional music organizations provide not only extra learning experiences, but also additional performance opportunities for USF students. The Florida Orchestra, Florida West Coast Symphony, Florida Opera West, Master Chorale, church choirs, jazz and commercial work all offer potential employment for USF students.

The School of Music has the student's education as its primary goal. Hopefully, this will provide the basis for a productive career and fulfilling life. USF graduates may be found in leading graduate schools, professional ensembles and prominent teaching positions throughout the state and nation.
