The School of Music at the University of South Florida offers a Masters of Music degree with concentrations in chamber music, choral conducting, instrumental conducting, jazz composition, jazz performance, music composition, music performance, music theory, piano pedagogy, and electro-acoustic music, a Masters of Arts in Music Education degree, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Music Education. In addition, the School of Music also offers a variety of Graduate Certificate programs. Specific information for each degree can be found below on this page.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION: Admission to USF is a two step process. First, you must complete the University application. This is an online form available at: http://facts23.facts.org/admissions/jsp/dageneralinfosfg.jsp. Second, there are additional admission requirements for the School of Music. These vary by graduate program. Information on specific admission requirements and program requirements are linked below. Read this information carefully. If you need more information contact the program coordinator listed for your area of interest.

NON-DEGREE STUDENT APPLICATION: Students can register for graduate classes at USF without being a degree seeking student. Information on this process can be found HERE.

SUBMITTING APPLICATION MATERIALS: All School of Music application materials (not including the University application) should be forwarded to Dr. David A. Williams, graduate advisor, at: University of South Florida, 4202 E. Fowler Avenue FAH110, Tampa, FL 33620. Fax: (813) 974-8721. Email: dwilliams@arts.usf.edu.

AUDITION APPLICATION: Students interested in programs that require an audition should submit the ONLINE AUDITION APPLICATION. It is highly recommended that you submit your application at least three weeks prior to your requested audition date. Audition days often fill up and audition times are filled as applications are received. You will find audition requirements for each instrument/program at the bottom of this web page.

If you wish to audition on more than one instrument you must submit a SEPARATE application for EACH instrument. Audition dates listed on the ONLINE AUDITION APPLICATION are for students wishing to enter the School of Music in Fall 2008, Spring 2009 or Summer 2009. When selecting your preferred audition date, be sure that your instrument and/or voice is being auditioned on that date, and be sure to indicate your instrument classification and the program for which you are applying. Please note that this audition is for acceptance into the School of Music. Separate auditions, which take place at the beginning of the fall semester, are required for placement in our music ensembles.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS: Each year there are a limited number of Graduate Assistantships available for incoming graduate students. There is a separate online application required if you are interested in applying for a Graduate Assistantship. For full consideration, read the information on the GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP APPLICATION carefully, complete the form and submit it as early as possible.
