Professor Emeritus of Music and Flutist, Kim McCormick, retired as an Associate Professor of Music at the University of South Florida. She is the Past President and Chairman of the Board of the 600 member Florida Flute Association and has received numerous awards for her work with Sigma Alpha Iota international professional music fraternity. Currently she is Principal Flutist of the professional Florida Wind Band and Concertmaster of the Florida Flute Orchestra. She is also a frequent chamber music enthusiast performing frequently with the McCormick Duo (flute and percussion) and the McCollwin Trio (flute, oboe, piano). As flutist with the McCormick Duo, she has recorded four CDs on the Capstone and Ravello labels. These recordings have received high critical acclaim in the leading audiophile journals including American Record Guide, Fanfare and Gramophone. Many of the works included on these recordings are premier performances of new works by American composers. She has also given performances in Europe, South America and Asia. Recent performances include, the International Double Reed Conference, Merkin Hall in New York, the National Flute Association in New Orleans and Washington D.C. and the Florida Governor’s mansion in celebration of “La Florida”. She holds a doctorate in flute performance from the University of North Texas.

A dedicated teacher, her students have won regional and national competitions including the National Flute Association’s Piccolo Young Artist and Jazz Artist Masterclass, the Florida Flute Association Young Artist Competition, the Yamaha Young Artist Competition, a Grammy nomination and numerous Downbeat Magazine awards. After graduation, many have gone on to graduate programs at prestigious universities. She is an active member of the Florida Flute Association, National Flute Association, Sigma Alpha Iota and the Florida Bandmasters Association. Several articles have been published in Flute Talk Magazine.

Kim McCormick performs exclusively on Yamaha flutes: 992B gold c flute, Yamaha bass flute and Yamaha alto flute.
