Register for the Symposium

Registration for the event will take place beginning on the afternoon of January 18th. Papers and composer sessions will be held on Thursday, January 18th beginning at 3:00 PM, on Friday-Saturday, January 19th-20th from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and on Sunday, January 21st from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Concerts devoted to the music of Asian composers will be held on Thursday-Friday, January 18th-19th at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, January 21st at 2:00 p.m..

The official conference hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn North, which is near the intersection of I-75 and Fletcher Avenue (the actual address is 13305 Tampa Oaks Blvd.), approximately two miles from the USF campus.

This is a little further away from the USF campus than I would like, but one advantage is that they do have a free shuttle, as long as you plan ahead to reserve a spot on it preferably the night before. Rooms are about $110 per night, but many of the rooms are spacious enough so that participants could possibly share a room if they wanted to.

If you book a room at the Hilton Garden Inn North, please do it over the next four days, since the cutoff date for the block booking is currently December 22nd. The hotel told me today that they would try to extend this deadline by 5-7 days because it took USF five weeks to approve the booking contract, but this extended deadline has not been confirmed yet.

There are several other hotel options that are closer to USF that you can also try, but they would be slightly below the Hilton Garden Inn in quality, and they may not be cheaper than the discounted rate at the Hilton.

  1. The La Quinta Inn on 3701 E. Fowler (near USF/Busch Gardens), which is across a main thoroughfare from the southern corner of the USF campus. USF does a lot of business with this hotel, although for some reason they would not issue a block booking contract for this event.

  2. If you want the cheapest possible acceptable place, try the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center on 2701 E. Fowler. It is a little further away from the USF campus than the La Quinta, but the Clarion is also right next to a number of restaurants of various types (Vietnamese, Tex-Mex, etc.). The last time that I hosted a CMS southern regional conference here a few years ago, some people stayed at the Clarion and said that it was okay.

  3. We do have an Embassy Suites hotel on the USF campus, about 0.7 miles from the School of Music building, from $200 and up per night. They might be an option for people who want to share a room, and/or for people who do not want to deal with car rentals:
