Priority Deadline for USF Undergraduate Composition Admission: December 15, 2018

  • Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

USF Composition Interview Date for ALL Fall 2019 Applicants: February 23, 2018
  • Alternate interview dates can be scheduled at the discretion of the faculty.
  • The February 23 interview day will include a post-interview composition tour and catered informational session. Parents are welcome to attend the tour and info. session.
  • Applicants should plan to be at USF for the entire day.
  • All undergraduate applicants will audition for a studio and interview with the composition faculty.
  • All transfer applicants will take the Composition Transfer Exam on the day of their audition/interview.
  • All graduate applicants will take the Graduate Diagnostic Exam on the day of their interview.
  • Graduate applicants who express interest in a TA position will also interview for the TA this day.
  • Interviews for graduate applicants are by invitation only, after the initial application/portfolio is pre-screened.
  • Applicants are encouraged to attend the USF composition event "SYCOM at CAM" on Friday February 22, 2018, 7:00pm, at the USF Contemporary Art Museum. This will provide an opportunity to listen to some of the electronic music being created by USF composers and informally mingle with current students and faculty. Parents are welcome to attend this free event.

The USF composition faculty have designed a program of study that prepares composers for the many paths ahead. Alumni of this program have continued their studies at first-rate schools and have received many of the top honors given to student composers. Students of the USF Composition Program regularly enjoy performances of their works on campus, at local venues, and at festivals throughout the world. Recent graduates have been accepted to such schools as Eastman School of Music, NYU, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Mannes Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and McGill University. The USF School of Music, Composition Program, offers a BM in Acoustic and Electronic Composition and a MM in Composition.
