June 22, 2019 - Sample Schedule of Events

9:00-9:30am - Band Director check-in along with instrument check-in (registered band directors will be asked to bring their school’s oboes and bassoons).

Scott Robinson will be on-site to appraise & inspect school oboes and bassoons. (he will be here for several hours to go through each instrument and give quotes on what repair may be needed)

9:30-10:00am - Short welcome concert and introductions.

10:00-10:30am - Discussion on importance of a properly functioning instrument and discussion of brands of quality instruments and approximate prices.

10:30-11:00am - Instrument surroundings, warming of the instrument, swab vs. feather (oboe) and swabbing and bocal maintenance (bassoon).

11:00am-12:00pm - Reeds, reeds, reeds.

12:00-1:00pm - Lunch (which will be provided).

1:00-2:00pm - Embouchure, sound production, etc., band book fingering discrepancies.

2:00-3:00pm - Sound production and embouchure.

3:00-4:00pm - Band director showcase. Band directors will play a few pieces.

Each band director will be given their very own booklet at the beginning of class.
The booklet will include topics from the class, an area for note taking, as well as an
annotated bibliography of recommended FBA Solo pieces, grades 4-7, for both oboe
and bassoon.
